Taoism forms the core of my aesthetic. From my years as a potter, observing and interacting with elemental processes of Earth,Wood, Metal, Fire and Water I have preferred what can best be described as "the Natural" in Art.
Fine Art
Fine Art is, for me, the application of fine Craftsmanship. When it is presented in certain venues, art, in general terms, becomes a commodity.
Woodworking
Wood, next to ceramic, is an engaging material for me. I like the grain and flexibility of wood. I like the way wood ages like a good friend.
Music
I am an untutored admirer of the activity of making music. An extremely volatile and temporary art, music can be made concrete by recording it. But then, it still needs to be heard.
From the early 1980s through 2011 I did a lot of painting for Hospitality and Medical facilities. Most of my work from that time is what you will encounter in corridors and waiting spaces, often created at the direction of an Interior Designer for that facility. Since that time I have increasingly only made paintings when I have been compelled to re-imagine a scene I have enjoyed at my leisure.
I find photography, digital imaging and painting fairly interchangeable.

Stencil Collage
Torn paper in repeat patterns often placed over other solid images or layered with more stencils or sketched backgrounds. Photos are often manipulated to provide spaces to float the patterns over. The edges are mostly torn instead of cut to emphasize the nature of the paper itself and the fluidity of the process. The final image may be digitally printed, or the original collage may also be presented.
